Alex's Section Blog

This course offers an introduction to a series of prominent ideas driving the contemporary discipline of architecture. It seeks to sensitize students to the built environment as a thoughtfully designed and experienced cultural product. Through a broad array of lectures, readings, discussions, and assignments, students are asked to engage in a critical understanding of the way we design, build and experience architecture.

Weekly Response 2


This is room 2002 in the Modern Languages Building. I chose this space because the shape of it is very interesting. It does not seem like a very convenient shape for a classroom, and the way the chairs are arranged helps to demonstrate this. I chose to cut the space along the N-S central axis because it provides a description of the longest dimension of the space, and also gave me the opportunity to explore how to represent a space with a diagonal wall in section.
